1st day Germany

Thats what you get for being overly excited and snotty about a free lounge. It wasn’t even open. So we settled for a Starbucks in the station. We boarded our train and found out I had booked us two seats in the quiet car. An 8 seat private car behind the conductor room. It was super spacious and while I appreciate the silence - we also had to be silent. But then 2 stops later a trio of Germans arrive and silence is not whats happening. All in all - it was a relaxing way to get to Cologne. The landscape of the Netherlands to Germany was mostly green farmland with brick single family homes and loads of flowerpots. Dutch cows, horses and lots of forest. I read countless stories on the controversy of the Times article where there is a resistance inside the Trump Administration. So Im happy and feeling hopeful! And wishing for MSNBC.

Cologne:
All that is Rick Steve approved in Cologne is the Cathedral. Its an international pilgrimage site, Cologne Cathedral has held the reliquary of the Three Kings since 1164. In 1248 work started on a new Gothic home for these precious remains, and it was inspired by the ethereal cathedrals of Northern France.
Now a UNESCO site, Cologne Cathedral is the single most visited landmark in Germany and its 19th-century towers are still the second-tallest structures in the city. So we saw it. It was massive. Check.

We have a quick lunch, walk the lock lovers bridge and blow thru Cologne in 2 hours. Get our rental and off to Munster.

Arrive Munster by 3pm and nap till 5. We head out to see the 5 top touristy things. We are staying at a not awesome hotel across from the train station. I think I booked it when I thought we would take the train to here and then never fixed the hotel. Its a 10min walk to the main platz so its fine. We see the churches, the city hall the platz, shop in a chocolate store and just walk around loving being back in Germany. This one restaurant has a nearly full patio and the other restaurants are empty. So we sit at the only table available and hope dinner will be good. Turns out its a 300yr old reaturant. Best meal of the week. I got creamy tomato soup and lox with potato pancakes. Jerome got fried fish and salad. Really super delicious. Im so happy! Finished it off with vanilla custard and a apple strudel. Some amazing cordial I took a picture of and we walk back home in love and with happy bellies. We snuggle up on one of the twin beds with a movie but I fall asleep so jerome retreats to his single bed at the foot of mine. Restless sleepless night since there is no AC we have the windows open. Being x from train station every drunk asshole is screaming all night long. At 4:30 I cant take it so I march my nightgown barefoot braless self down to the front desk to demand another fan and make sure they know Im miserable. It wasn’t my best moment and Im pretty sure my whole crazy hair ugly American tirade was lost on the poor guy on night dury since I dont think he spoke a lick of English. Im writing this at 5:30 since I still cant sleep. I know jerome is hot and not sleeping. I feel like I took a tip from my dad and booked the wrong hotel. Today we leave for a lunch stop in Bremen and onto Hamburg for the night. I do love Germany.
